Sidhu bats for taking Punjab crop to world market

Amritsar: Punjab local government minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today batted for marketing the state's agricultural produce in the world market and said Australian expertise in this regard could be of a great help.

The minister expressed these views as he welcomed Australian High Commissioner to India, Harinder Sidhu, here. Emphasising the need to market Punjab's crop in the world market, the cricketer-turned-politician said this could be a "game changer for the farmers".

This will not only hugely benefit the farmers but also liberate them from the clutches of MSP, he said. "Australia has great strength and technical prowess to market crop in the world market. I have requested the Australian High Commissioner and she has assured all help," he added.

The minister suggested that Chief Minister Amarinder Singh could visit Australia and witness all that is happening there and assess how Punjab can benefit from it. The High Commissioner said a delegation from Punjab can come first to see how crops are marketed at globally.

Navjot Singh Sidhu said he would discuss with Amarinder Singh in this regard. He also said that Punjab will tie with Tourism Australia to develop this sector.

"Things have been moving between Punjab and Australia in the field of sports and tourism and Agriculture too has a great potential. I am also visiting the Punjab Agricultural University to gather more in this field", said the Australian High Commissioner. PTI
