Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said that it will 'gherao' Punjab Assembly on March 20 in protest against the Congress-led state government for allegedly not honouring poll promises related to farm sector.
"The Shiromani Akali Dal will gherao the Punjab assembly on March 20 to protest against the Congress government's betrayal of the people of Punjab and the non-fulfillment of its poll promises regarding farmers, farm labour and the poorer sections of society, "said the party spokesman Daljeet Singh Cheema in a release.
He said that a joint meeting of SAD MLAs, ex MLAs and district presidents will be held on March 14, at the party headquarters here to discuss the preparations for the 'gherao'.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal would preside over the meeting, he added. PTI
