Chandigarh: More than 90,000 trucks have remained off roads in the state on the ‘chakka jam’ call given by All Punjab Truck Operators Union. The call was given to protest the state government decision to disband truck unions.
The truckers strike has affected the movement of goods especially essential items including vegetables and fruits within the state and inter-state supplies from here. The Union president Happy Sandhu had yesterday said that none of their members would ply truck as mark of protest.
The government decision would affect the small operators the most as the big transport companies would push them out of the business, he had said adding the decision would lead to considerable increase in freight charges.
