Chandigarh: The Punjab Vidhan Sabha proceedings have once again been marred by controversy, as to what actually transpired on its floor during last two days of the current budget session.
Pitching for live broadcast of its proceedings on the lines of the Parliament, well-known lawyer HC Arora has written to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Brahm Mohindra to request the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker to make arrangements in this regard in the interest of democracy.
The electorate has the right to know as to what is being done by their representatives in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
The advent of “Right to Information Act” proved to be advent of transparency in administration. Live telecast of proceedings of Parliament proved to be advent of transparency in Indian Parliament. But it has always been a different story in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, added Arora.
During last Vidhan Sabha also, proceedings on certain days were marred by controversies. Filthy abuses were hurled by certain “responsible” Members of the House against their brother-Members, but due to lack of transparency in proceedings of the House, people of Punjab were kept guessing as to who were the “responsible” Members, who created such ugly scenes in the House.
