
Chandigarh: To promote the heritage tourism and creating jobs in rural areas, the Punjab tourism department has come out with a new plan to frame policy to promote the tourism and job creation in rural areas.

Under the proposed policy, the heritage buildings or places would be turned into the tourism sites so that they could fetch the maximum tourists in the state. The Tourism and cultural affairs minister Navjot Singh Sidhu along with the Punjab governor VP Singh Badnore held a meeting with the Indian Heritage Hotels Association.
The heritage buildings would be converted into the museums and hotels just like on the pattern of Europe. The IHHA presented the proposal to the Punjab government for converting the heritage sites into the museums and hotels so that the tourism would be boosted in Punjab.
According to the cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, “Palaces, forts and old havelies could be converted into heritage tourism assets.” The new policy would be beneficial for the state as it would boost up the tourism in the state and it would be good for the economy of Punjab.
In Himachal Pradesh, the home stay system has been contributing a lot in the economy of the state. Under the home stay system, the people of the rural areas help the tourists to stat at their homes and also provide them the staple food so that the tourists could know about the culture of the particular area.
