
Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will felicitate Navjot Kaur, who
scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win gold
in the Senior Asian Championship held in Kyrgyzstan.
The chief minister lauded the "daughter of the soil" for bringing laurels to Punjab and the nation.
Disclosing
this here, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister s Office said the
winner was given a warm welcome in her home village by the state
government.
The district administration led by Additional Deputy
Commissioner and Sub Divisional Magistrate was present to welcome Navjot
in her native Bagria village and to congratulate her parents Sukhchain
Singh and Gian Kaur along with coach Ashok Kumar, he said.
The
Congress leader said the rare feat of the young Punjabi woman wrestler
would go a long way in motivating her peers, especially the budding
wrestlers, to prove their mettle in national and international
tournaments.
He said Navjot's achievement would also bolster the
confidence of young wrestlers to repeat the success story in the
upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
