Punjab govt to bring CM office under Lokpal

Chandigarh: Punjab government is going to equip the Lokpal with more powers in the forthcoming budget session. Even the office of CM would bring under the jurisdiction of Lokpal.

Chandigarh: Punjab government is going to equip the Lokpal with more powers in the forthcoming budget session. Even the office of CM would bring under the jurisdiction of Lokpal.

Captain Amarinder Singh during his election campaign had announced to bring the office of the CM under the jurisdiction of the Lokpal. Hence, besides the CM, ministers, MLAs, IAS and IPS officers are expected to be brought under its jurisdiction.

Even the opposition has been demanding to frame strict laws against the corruption. A committee constituted in this regard has prepared the list of the recommendations to the government.

The sources said that the cabinet will give the nod to the bill and then it would be put up in the assembly session. However, there are different opinions for the amendment in the Punjab Lokpal. So, the Congress led ruling government has been deliberately holding the meetings regularly as budget session is scheduled on June 14.
