Efforts have been gearing up by the authorities to set fix prices of the crops so that the famrers could be discouraged to commit suicides. As per the policy, the farmers would get the good rates for their crops.

The government has been planning to set up an Agriculture Insurance Corporation so that the compensation could be given for the damaged crops due to the natural calamities. Even the previous government had planned an Agriculture policy but the policy remained in the papers only and failed to take off that led to the farmers to stop practicing agriculture.
Working on the directions of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the chairman of Punjab Farmers Commission Ajay Bir Jakhar has started working on the formation of policy making in this regard. According to the sources, a meeting was held between the officials of various agriculture departments to discuss the issue. Even the retired officials also participated in the meeting and discussed that how the farming could be make beneficial in the state at lesser cost.
The sources revealed that the farming experts from the centre has suggested to create a separate fund for the Minimum Support Price so that the farming could be saved. The low water level was also the issue discussed in the meetng.
Jasbir Singh Bain, Director of Agriculture Department confirmed that concerned departments have been giving their suggestions to save the farming in the state and the policy in this regard would be framed soon.
