
Chandigarh: Vigilance Bureau (VB), Punjab, during its ongoing campaign against corruption, nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. one lac on Friday.
An official spokesman of the VB said the ASI Sukhwinder Singh posted at Police Station Mehna in Moga district was nabbed red handed on the complaint of Pavittar Singh of village Dandrala Kharoud, Patiala district.
The complainant had approached the VB's Economic Offence Wing (EOW) alleging that the accused ASI was demanding Rs. 1,15,000 for releasing his tractor impounded in a case at Police Station Mehna in Moga district.
After verifying his information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused ASI was arrested on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs. one lac from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB, EOW police station Ludhiana and further investigations was under progress.
