PO tries to escape from police custody

Ferozepur: A proclaimed offender (PO), involved in the killing of eigty members of two families, tried to escape from police custody near Chuchak Vind village, police said.

As the police vehicle reached near the village, the man, identified as Malook Singh, suddenly grabbed the driver of the jeep from the back, following which he lost balance, and the police vehicle hit a Punjab roadways bus, which was coming from the opposite direction, they said.


Both, the jeep and the bus were overturned, police said. Over 20 people were injured due to the impact of the incident, they said.

The police officials, who were injured in the accident, were identified as constable Balraj Singh, constable Lakha Singh, constable Gurjit Singh and constable Satpal Singh, police said.

All the injured were admitted to a Civil Hospital in Zira, police said, adding that most of them were later referred to a Government Medical College in Faridkot.

When contacted, Pritam Singh, SSP, said that a separate case will be registered against Singh in this regard, police said.

Singh was convicted to life imprisonment by the apex court, however, he jumped the parole in 2009 and resorted to criminal activities and had remained elusive till recent past. He was arrested yesterday.  PTI
