Man dies of swine flu in Ludhiana hospital

Ludhiana: A 58-year-old man died of swine flu at the DMC hospital here, a senior health department official said today. Epidemiologist Dr Ramesh, the nodal officer for swine flu, said the patient hailed from Pakhowal road here.

During this monsoon, 46 suspected cases of swine flu were reported here, of which which eight were confirmed, the doctor said. A 40-year-old from Hoshiarpur had died due to  swine flu at the same hospital, he added.

A week ago, a 42-year-old man had died of swine flu at the PGIMER in Chandigarh, the first casualty of the deadly H1N1 virus in the Union Territory this season. Earlier, health officials had said fresh guidelines were issued to hospitals across the state directing them to remain alert, after some swine flu cases were detected. PTI
