Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today expelled six leaders from the primary membership of the party for allegedly opposing party candidates and anti-party activities in Ludhiana ahead of civic elections there.

Harpreet Singh Bedi a civic poll candidate in Ward number 72 was shown the door for his alleged anti-party activities, a party leader said. Harpreet has allegedly fielded his wife Veeran Bedi from Ward number 73 as an independent candidate against the BJP's official candidate even after he got the SAD ticket to contest the polls, he said.

The other leaders who have been expelled for their anti-party activities include Gurdeep Singh Leel and Kulwinder Kaur Goga, both contesting as independents from wards number 74 and 41 respectively. He said the primary membership of Kulwinder Kaur's husband Sohan Singh Goga had also been suspended.
