Ludhiana: The Commissioner of Police (CP) RN Dhoke on Friday ordered dismissal of two cops with immediate effect after their conduct was found unfit for continuing in the police service.
Their summary dismissal was ordered as the CP was convinced that their retention in the police service was harmful to the interest of the state as well as of general public. “I consider that it is impracticable and inexpedient to hold any enquiry,” said the CP in his order exercising powers vested in him under Article 311 (2) (b) of the Constitution of India.
ASI Swarn Singh and Head Constable Kamaljit Singh, involved in criminal cases, were posted in the CIA Staff. Both were found indulging in promotion of illegal lotteries, sports betting, prostitution and drug peddling. Their continuous misconduct with cumulative effect and indulgence in promotion of criminal activities revealed incorrigibility and complete unfitness for the police service, said the CP.
Normally, the dismissal from the service is ordered after holding an enquiry entailing lot of deliberations. When asked, CP Dhoke reiterated his commitment to maintain accountability of the police personnel in conduct of their service.
Awarding harsh penalty like dismissal from service, he has also shown zero tolerance towards the rogue elements out to tarnish the image of the police with their criminal conduct. None involved in such criminal activities would be spared in the larger public interest, he added.
