
Chandigarh: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) won president, vice-president and secretary positions in Panjab University Campus Students' Council elections on Thursday.
NSUI leader Jashan Kamboj was elected President, Karanvir S Mahal the Vice President and Vani Sood Secretary of the council. The post of Joint Secretary was won by Panjab University Students Union's (PUSU) Karanbir S Randhawa.
Voting was held on the PU campus amid tight security as well as for student councils in the respective affiliated colleges in Chandigarh. The Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh congratulated NSUI for the victory in polls.
The elections were held for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary of the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC). NOTA (none of the above) was also an option.
There are nine candidates for the post of president, the highest in recent years. Last year, there were seven. For the vice-president’s post, there are six candidates while for the posts of secretary and joint secretary, there are 10 candidates each.
There are two candidates who are contesting all four posts while two are fighting on two posts, which effectively brings down the total number of candidates to 27 as one candidate can be declared winner from one post only.
