Chandigarh: Postural stability assessment is an important task that has found widespread medical and therapeutic applications. Typically, the developed system is used to measure the distribution of the weight of body about its Centre of Pressure, which governs the stability or postural balance.

The quantitative score of postural balance is very important in determining improvement of the patients suffering from balance disorders. The system developed by CSIR-CSIO provides the bio-feedback along with audio and vibrational feedback to the user for correcting the postural stability. 

Development of Assistive Technology and Rehabilitation Devices is a strong arm of Biomedical Instrumentation of CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh. 

Prof. RK Sinha Director CSIR-CSIO has informed that the Postural Stability Assessment System was developed under the Fast Track Translational program of CSIR, which emphasizes on transfer of research output for the benefit of common people of the society. 

The technology has been transferred to M/s Oceanic Fitness Chandigarh. Mr. Inderpal Singh Director of M/s Oceanic Fitness in Joint venture with Mr. Mukhwinder Singh of Accelor Microsystems will now start a new vertical for manufacturing of rehabilitation devices with this technology from CSIR-CSIO, which will besides benefiting the society in general will also help those requiring rehabilitation in the Armed Forces.
