New Delhi: Government of India has withdrawn police gallantry medal awarded to controversial Punjab cop Gurmit Singh Pinky. The decision to strip the former police ‘cat’ of the award was taken after his conviction in 2001 murder case in which a Ludhiana youth was killed.
Pinky was awarded the police medal on the recommendation of the Punjab government in 1997. The President of India approved withdrawal of the medal after the Union Home Ministry came to know about Pinky’s conviction in July 2015. He was also reinstated but the order was reversed later.
