The BJP candidate for the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha by-poll, Swaran Salaria may face trouble in the polls as a woman moved to Supreme Court with her pleas against Salaria claiming that she was sexually exploited by him on the pretext of marriage.

The woman has made her intimate photographs with Swaran Salaria public. The photographs have gone viral on social media.

The Punjab Congress has submitted a complaint against Salaria to the Chief Electoral Officer to cancer his candidature.

Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, lodged a formal complaint accusing Salaria of concealing facts related to criminal case pending against him in the election affidavit submitted as part of his nomination papers.

Manpreet Singh Badal has sought the disqualification of SAD-BJP candidate Swaran Salaria from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha by election for “concealing the registration of a rape case by an SC woman against him at a Mumbai police station” in his nomination papers.

Addressing a press conference, Manpreet said his party would approach the Returning Officer, besides writing to the Election Commission of India over the “violation”.

He alleged that a case under Sections 376, 420 and 506 of the IPC was registered against the leader on the complaint on December 15, 2014.

The minister alleged that the woman had accused Salaria of raping and cheating her on the pretext of marriage as they were in a relationship from 1984 to 2014.

On the other hand, the BJP state president, Vijay Sampla, during a press conference said that the party will file a defamation case against Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal for accusing Swaran Singh Salaria, the BJP-SAD candidate for the October 11 Gurdaspur bypoll, of concealing a case registered against him.

Sampla said that the Congress minister presented false facts among the media.

“Congress is playing dirty politics. False allegations have been levelled against Salaria and we will file a defamation case against Badal,” Sampla said.

Already the SAD has been facing trouble as the former SAD minister Sucha Singh Langah caught in rape case. Though the SAD has expelled Langah from the party but it would halt the BJP campaign in Gurdaspur. And now the allegations against Salaria may harm the BJP in the by poll. The Congress and AAP would be the biggest rivals in the Gurdaspur by poll.
