CM orders immediate suspension of vigilance inspector

Chandigarh: Taking cognizance of the unfortunate incident of the suicide by DFSO Kamaldeep Singh, who was allegedly harassed in a case registered by the Vigilance Department, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday ordered the immediate suspension of Vigilance Inspector Iqbal Singh.

Captain Amarinder has also ordered investigation of the charges against Iqbal and others whose name figure in the case. As per his suicide note, Kamaldeep had allegedly taken his life after being severely harassed and intimated by certain officials in a case of alleged misappropriation of paddy during Kharif season 2016-17 by M/s Sardar Agro Industries in village Sadatpur, Malerkotla of Sangrur. 

The Chief Minister has also ordered an inquiry against Iqbal for interfering in the registration of a criminal case against the Miller on reference of District Manager PUNSUP, Tarn Taran.

The Chief Minister has directed the DGP to look into the entire circumstances leading up to the suicide. A spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said the Chief Minister also gave a go ahead for registration of a criminal case against the proprietor of Sardar Agro, who had already confessed to embezzling paddy worth nearly Rs. 2.5 crore. 

The Chief Minister also directed the Secretary Mandi Board to immediately suspend the licenses of Arthias at Kairon, Khemkaran and Sabran Mandis of district Tarn Taran for conspiring with the proprietor to embezzle the paddy lifted under the Release Order Scheme.

Based on the statement of late Kamaldeep Singh Gill, and in view of his failure to monitor the movement of paddy and delivery of corresponding quantity of rice to the FCI, the Chief Minister ordered disciplinary action against DFSC Sangrur, Manjit Singh. 

Captain Amarinder has directed the MD, PUNSUP, to enquire into the role of then District Managers of Sangrur and Tarn Taran and fix their responsibilities, and also initiate disciplinary action against the erring officials, said the spokesperson.
