Channi launches 'Every student and teacher raise a tree' drive

Chandigarh: Charanjit Singh Channi, Minister for Technical Education and Industrial Training, today launched the 'Every student and teacher raise a tree' campaign and announced that students and teachers of all ITIs, Polytechnics and Engineering colleges in the state would not only plant saplings under this campaign but will also own the responsibility of raising the planted tree.

In a meeting with Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharmoshot, Minister for Forests and Social Welfare here at Punjab Secretariat today, Channi said that the main motive  of this campaign being launched with the help of the Forest Department, was to ensure maximum care of the planted tree besides planting maximum number of saplings to make a significant contribution to environmental conservation. He said that all the state government and private ITIs, polytechnics and engineering colleges have been written in this regard and he will make every effort to personally monitor this campaign.

Charanjit Singh Channi said that it was commonly seen that the saplings planted through various plantation drives were destroyed soon due to lack of care and it leads to nothing but waste of time, plants and resources.  He said that under this campaign students and teachers of all ITIs, polytechnics and engineering colleges of Punjab would adopt these plants to ensure that these sapling would be successfully raised as trees.

During the meeting, Forest and Social Welfare Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot said that the sapling required under this campaign would be provided by the Forest Department. He said that the required survey would be done within one week and to ensure that maximum number of trees to be planted in the premises of ITIs, polytechnics and engineering colleges of the state. He assured that all the possible help would be provided by the Forest Department for the success of this campaign.
