Amritsar (Sukhwinderjit Singh Bohru): The prominent Pingalwara trust working for the welfare of the downtrodden and helpless people has also put under the GST. It is pertinent to mention that the organization has been working wholeheartedly for the helpless, poor, mentally disordered and orphans free of cost.
In Pangalwara, there are 1764 poor patients getting free of cost treatment. The organization has branches in various cities to generate the donations for the treatment of these patients who are helpless and have no family member to look after them.
The total expenditure for running this hospital costs around Rs 6.50 lakh per day. Besides, the trust has been running schools, old age homes and orphanage centres. People have been getting the facilities free of cost in these centres.
Punjab government had exempted the organization from VAT as the trust is totally dependent on the donations from the public. Moreover, the students have been getting free books, uniforms and other material free of cost.
The GST is being levied on the items purchased by the Pingalwara trust. Due to the GST on the purchased items, the trust will have to bear the burden of Rs 2 crore which will create a problem for the organization.
Dr. Inderjit Kaur, Patron President of Pingalwara said that the organization has been serving the poor and downtrodden people free of cost since long. So, the GST will create a problem if the centre government will not exempt it from GST. She said that they appeal the centre government to not put the institution under GST.
