Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has assured of a thorough probe into any irregularities in the distribution of sports kits to youth clubs under the erstwhile SAD-BJP rule.

The assurance came from the Chief Minister in the Vidhan Sabha on Thursday in response to a question raised by MLA Rajinder Beri during question hour. No misappropriation in the intended use of sports kits meant for youth across the state would be tolerated or condoned, and if any irregularity comes to light the responsibility will be fixed and guilty will be sternly dealt with, Captain Amarinder promised the House.

He informed the House that selection of beneficiaries by the previous government was done under a Beneficiary Selection Committee under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, with no political persons as members.

Reiterating his personal commitment to the overall development of the youth of Punjab, Capt Amarinder said his government was duty-bound to facilitate youth in their all-round development, of which sports was a vital aspect. Involvement in sports activities will also help drug-affected youth to come back into the mainstream of the society, he added.
