Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) legislators led by their legislature party leader Sukhbir Badal walked out of Punjab Assembly on the opening day of the session that commenced today.
As soon as Speaker KP Singh Rana started reading out obituary references, the Akali MLAs stood up in protest and resorted to sloganeering. Later they walked out of the Assembly hall.
KPS Gill's name was second in the list of the references. SAD had already told that the party would oppose the tributes to KPS Gill.
AAP MLAs too kept silent on the issue though their alliance partner Lok Insaf Party (LIP) MLAs Simerjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains supported the Akalis and also walked out. Even the AAP MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira staged walkout opposing the tributes to KPS Gill.
Khaira had raised the issue that KPS Gill killed the innocent Punjabi youth so he should not be in the obituary list. He had revealed that the former DG was involved in the human right violations in Punjab.
