Punjab News: In an incident of gunfire in Punjab’s Amritsar district, a 22-year-old youth died, while another sustained critical injuries following an argument between two parties that suddenly flared up.
The injured person was rushed to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar. The deceased has been identified as Simranjit Singh. The incident occurred at around 5 pm in Balkalan village in the district.
As per the injured youth, he and other youths were engaged in a conversation that turned into an argument, following which the other party allegedly took out a pistol and opened fire. In the incident, the deceased was hit in the chest, while the injured sustained a bullet injury in his leg.
The injured further stated that an argument had taken place over the phone a few days ago, but claimed there was no enmity as such. However, he added that on the fateful evening, the matter suddenly flared up and turned violent.
The police confirmed that the two parties had been involved in a minor dispute a few days earlier, which allegedly led to the firing incident. The police said that a case is being registered against the accused and an investigation is underway.
