Severe Cold and Dense Fog Paralyze Daily Life in Punjab
Punjab Weather Update Today News: The northern region of India, particularly Punjab, finds itself in the icy grip of winter as dense fog blankets many areas, causing widespread disruptions to transportation and daily life. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for the next few days, cautioning residents about the persistent weather challenges.
People in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Bathinda shivered as the day temperature plummeted below normal levels on Friday. The thick fog has added to the chill, making it a challenging time for residents across these cities.

On Friday, 14 flights from Chandigarh and four from Amritsar were canceled, with an additional four flights canceled before 9 am on Saturday. This affected a total of 250 flights, including both domestic and international, from Amritsar, Chandigarh, and New Delhi. Some flights experienced delays of up to three hours. Rail traffic has also been significantly disrupted, with 125 trains traveling to and from Punjab facing delays, some stretching up to 12 hours on Friday.
The Meteorological Department has issued a cold alert for various cities in Punjab on Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, a fog alert has been extended to 16 districts for the next two days. The department has categorized the alerts, indicating the severity of the fog: a red alert for very dense fog on Saturday, an orange alert for Sunday, and a yellow alert for dense fog on January 1 and 2, 2024.
