Authorities are urging the public to remain cautious and report any further sightings immediately.

12-Foot Python Spotted at Sukhna Lake Latest News Updates: The city has been witnessing heavy rainfall over the past few days, with particularly intense downpours during the last two nights in Chandigarh and Mohali. The continuous rain has led to waterlogging in several areas, and even potholes have been reported.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon has covered the entire country as of June 29, nine days ahead of its normal schedule.

Amid this weather situation, a 12-foot-long python was spotted near Sukhna Lake, as reported by our correspondent.

Sukhna Lake, often referred to as the “soul of the city,” is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, known for its tranquil setting, fitness activities, and scenic beauty. It is also recognised as a protected national wetland by the Government of India.

The appearance of such a large python has raised concerns about public safety, especially for children, given the lake’s popularity and the large crowds it attracts. The presence of the python may also pose a threat to small animals living in and around the area.

While pythons are non-venomous and generally not aggressive, they are strong and powerful constrictors. They tend to avoid human contact, but can become dangerous if provoked or mishandled, especially when children or small pets are nearby.

As of now, the python has been safely captured by the police, but its presence has sparked fears that more such reptiles could be in the vicinity, especially with changing weather conditions and rising water levels displacing wildlife.
