PM Modi’s Historic C-130J Touchdown Inaugurates Strategic Moran ELF
Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a historic milestone on Saturday by landing at the Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Assam’s Dibrugarh district. Arriving aboard a C-130J aircraft, the PM took off from the Chabua airfield and touched down on a specially reinforced section of National Highway-37 in Moran.
The Rs 100-crore project spans a 4.2-km stretch on the Moran Bypass. Strategically designed for dual use, the facility will serve as a multifunctional runway for IAF fighter jets and transport planes. Beyond strengthening national defence and logistics, officials noted it will act as a vital alternative to Dibrugarh airport during emergencies.
Upon landing, the Prime Minister was received by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. Following the touchdown, PM Modi witnessed an aerial display featuring IAF helicopters and combat aircraft.
The PM was felicitated with traditional Assamese honours, including a Muga Gamosa, a Japi, and a portrait of Chutia queen Sati Sadhini.
Chief Minister Sarma hailed the visit on social media, stating that each of the Prime Minister’s visits brings historic achievements that propel Assam toward significant growth and development.
