Next Hearings Scheduled to be held on September 14 and 18

MOHALI: The charges were formally framed against Jagtar Singh Hawara. The court of Additional District Sessions Judge Krishan Kumar Singla presided over the hearing, during which charges were established against Hawara under the Arms Act, Section 120B, and Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act.

The charges in question were filed in relation to the case registered at Sadar Kharar police station, as well as the case lodged at Sohana police station. In the Sadar Kharar police station case, Jagtar Singh Hawara faces charges under the Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act. Meanwhile, for the case registered at Sohana police station, the original file is still awaited.

The court has scheduled the next hearings for both cases on September 14 and 18. The legal proceedings have their origins in a case registered against Jagtar Singh Hawara and other individuals back in 2005, under the Explosive Substances Act of 1908 and the Arms Act. Interestingly, at the time of the registration of this case, Hawara was neither arrested nor were any recoveries made from him.

Similarly, another case dates back to 1998, where Jagtar Singh Hawara was named in the records of the Sohana police station. In this case, charges were filed under sections 124A, 153A, 225, 511, and 120B. Once again, Hawara remained unarrested during this period, and no recoveries were associated with him in connection to this case.

Notably, The legal proceedings have caught the attention of activists from the "Front for the Release of the Captive Singhs." They have voiced their demand for Jagtar Singh Hawara to be physically present during court proceedings. Additionally, they have emphasized the necessity for Hawara's transfer to a jail located in Ropar or Patiala. This demand is rooted in the fact that the FIRs were registered in the Mohali and Chandigarh regions, thereby suggesting that Hawara should be detained in jails situated within the same area.
