IMD Chandigarh Issues Orange and Yellow Alerts for Several Districts of Punjab

Punjab Weather Updates today: Chandigarh, June 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, has issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts of Punjab for June 27, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and other adverse weather conditions.

Districts Under Orange Alert (June 27): Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar and Kapurthala. These districts are expected to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls.

Districts Under Yellow Alert (June 27): Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr (SBS Nagar), Rupnagar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Ludhiana, Moga, Firozpur, Faridkot, Fazilka, Muktsar and Bathinda. These areas may witness thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls, though the intensity is expected to be lower than in orange alert regions.

No warnings have been issued for the remaining districts in the state for this day.

Weather Forecast for June 28:

On June 28, the IMD has placed only four districts under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls. The rest of the state has no weather warnings.

On June 29, the eastern districts of Punjab are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls. However, Patiala, SAS Nagar (Mohali), and Rupnagar have been placed under a specific warning for heavy rain along with thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls. There is no alert for the western districts on this day.

Extended Weather Outlook (June 29–June 31):

The weather is likely to remain cloudy and cool from June 29 to June 31, with the IMD forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in most districts across the state.

Weather Observed in the Past 24 Hours (as of June 26):

A rise of 1.3°C was observed in the average minimum temperature compared to the previous day, bringing it close to normal levels across the state. Gurdaspur (AMFU) recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state. In western Punjab, Faridkot received the maximum rainfall of 58.8 mm.

On June 26, Faridkot also recorded the highest maximum temperature at 38.5°C (reported at 5:30 PM).

The lowest daytime temperature was reported from FASC_ABOHAR (AWS) station in Fazilka at 28.7°C.
