Failure of Authorities or Humanity? ‘Chinese Dor' Kills Mother of Two-Year-Old in Punjab

This incident highlights the alarming insensitivity and heartlessness increasingly visible among sections of society.

In yet another tragic incident, the mother of a two-year-old child lost her life on Sunday evening after coming into contact with a deadly Chinese kite string, commonly known as Chinese dor but manufactured locally in India.

The irreparable and unforgivable incident occurred on Raikot Road in Mullanpur Dakha, in Ludhiana, when the woman was on her way to the local market for wedding shopping on a scooty.

As she was passing near a Gurdwara Sahib, a Chinese kite string flying in the air suddenly came into contact with her neck, severely cutting her throat and leaving her critically injured. The victim immediately fell off the two-wheeler.

Showing prompt humanity, Deepa Dhatt and Mandeep Dhatt, who were present at the spot, rushed her to a private hospital in their personal car. However, due to the reported unavailability of a doctor at the hospital, she was referred to a hospital in Ludhiana. Unfortunately, doctors there declared her dead on arrival.

The deceased has been identified as Sarbjit Kaur, wife of Mandeep Singh, a resident of Akalgarh. Her husband runs a food point on Raikot Road in Mullanpur Dakha.

This incident highlights the alarming insensitivity and heartlessness increasingly visible among sections of society. Despite repeated deaths and serious injuries caused by the use of this lethal kite string, some people continue to manufacture, distribute, and use it.

The tragedy also exposes the failure of authorities to effectively curb the production, sale, and use of such deadly material. The question of who will take responsibility for this grave incident remains unanswered and grows louder with each such loss of life.
