Commuters Get Free Run at Ladhowal Toll as Farmers Protest
Farmer organizations made the Ladhowal toll plaza free for all commuters on Monday, intensifying their agitation against the local administration. According to the report, the protest was triggered by the administration’s continued failure to address long-standing infrastructure demands, specifically the repair of the Dhussi embankment on the Sutlej River.
The area was severely impacted by devastating floods last year, which caused the Dhussi embankment to collapse and inflicted heavy damage on crops and agricultural land.
Dilbag Singh, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union, said that farmers and villagers have been protesting for an extended period and had previously submitted a formal memorandum of demands to the district administration. Despite these multiple requests, no progress has been made on the ground.
Protesters also highlighted the poor condition of Rahon Road as a key reason for their action.
However, farmer unions have warned that the toll plaza will remain free indefinitely until tangible results are seen on the embankment.
