Punjab Govt Boosts Revenue Services with Deployment of 504 Skilled Patwaris
Chandigarh: Strengthening its pledge to deliver clean, transparent, and efficient public services, the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has achieved another milestone by formally appointing 504 newly recruited Patwaris. The appointment letters were handed over by Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian at a special ceremony held at the Municipal Bhawan.
Minister Mundian highlighted that these Patwaris, after successfully completing an intensive 18-month training programme, are now ready to serve the people of Punjab as regular field officers. The recruitment process, initiated in 2023, was strictly merit-based, with candidates receiving district postings in accordance with their performance.
To ensure high-quality training, the government set up 10 temporary Patwar Schools equipped with experienced PCS officers, District Revenue Officers, Tehsildars, and other senior officials who served as instructors. The curriculum covered revenue computation, land record management, surveying, record preparation, elections, agriculture, and advanced computer applications. Candidates also received specialised training on the Integrated Land Management System (ILMS) and practical instruction on the use of DGPS technology for accurate land demarcation.
The Minister emphasized that this recruitment is a significant step towards building a corruption- and citizen-centric governance model. He announced that more Patwari posts will be filled soon, creating further employment opportunities for Punjab’s youth.
Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Financial Commissioner Revenue Anurag Verma lauded the move, stating that these highly trained Patwaris will not only improve efficiency in revenue operations but will also strengthen key reforms such as Easy Jamabandi and Easy Registry at the grassroots level. The Punjab Government sees this as a landmark achievement in its mission to modernize governance, enhance public convenience, and uphold its commitment to accountability and transparency.
