With the Vidhan Sabha elections approaching, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced that ration kits will be distributed to nearly 40 lakh blue card holders across the state starting in April.

The Punjab Council of Ministers made the decision during a meeting in Chandigarh on Monday. Under the new scheme titled ‘Meri Rasoi’, each eligible family will receive a ration kit in addition to the free wheat already provided every month. The kit will include 2 kg of dal, 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of iodised salt, 200 grams of turmeric (haldi), and 1 litre of mustard oil. According to the Chief Minister, these kits will be supplied for a period of three months beginning in April.

Sources indicate that the state has allocated Rs 1,000 crore for the implementation of the scheme. The ration kits will be prepared by MARKFED, while their distribution will be handled by the Food and Supplies Department.

He highlighted concerns about malnutrition and iron deficiency among children and said the government is committed to ensuring nutritious food for all citizens. Regular quality checks will be conducted to maintain standards. The Budget session is scheduled from March 6 to 16, with the Budget to be presented on March 8.
