SVEEP activities to play significant role in making voters aware: CEO

Chandigarh, January 23: The Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab Dr. S. Karuna Raju here today at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer launched the SVEEP activities in view of the General Elections-2019. The activities would be carried out in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India so as to ensure that voters are made aware keeping in view the General Elections-2019.

Disclosing details about the campaign, Dr. S. Karuna Raju said that the main purpose behind initiating Systematic Voter Education and Voter Participation (SVEEP) is to sensitise the voters regarding the importance of their vote and inspire them to cast their vote in a non-partisan and idealistic manner. He also said that the SVEEP activities have also been going on earlier too but now with the assistance of NGOs, Student community, Youth clubs and other institutions the activities would be run full steam.

He also said that the NGOs, Student community, Youth clubs and the other institutions would collaborate with the already established ones in this venture of creating awareness in the voters. He further said that these institutions would organize ‘Chunav Paathshala’, Setting up voter awareness clubs and voter awareness forums, Strengthening further the clubs and forums already established, Spreading awareness in the service voters about their rights,

Setting up voter assistance centres, Sensitization pertaining to the voter helpline number 1950 started under 360 degree communication campaign. The CEO also elaborated that apart from this, posters would be pasted in the whole state about the elections and the rights of voters and also the initiatives with regard to multimedia, Awareness through social media, Radio Jockeys’ workshop and making the employees of different departments aware would also be undertaken.
