Amritsar Customs AIU Thwarts Illicit Operation as Passenger Conceals Gold Worth 45 Lakhs in Capsules from Sharjah

AMRITSAR: In a Significant Operation, the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport (SGRD), Amritsar, successfully intercepted an illegal attempt to smuggle gold into the country. The incident unfolded as a passenger arriving from Sharjah via Indigo flight 6E1428 came under suspicion by the vigilant customs department. Subsequently, a thorough search was conducted, revealing concealed gold capsules.

The Concealed capsules, totaling three in number, contained gold in a paste form, amounting to a gross weight of 950 grams. After careful weighing, the net gold weight stood at 770 grams. Based on market valuations, the estimated worth of the confiscated gold amounts to approximately Rs 45 lakhs.

Notably, The Customs officials have seized the illicit gold under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, marking a crucial step in curbing smuggling activities. The case is now undergoing a rigorous investigation to uncover any potential links or networks associated with this smuggling attempt.
