Punjab Police launched the ‘War Against Gangsterism’ initiative yesterday. In its first phase, under ‘Operation Parhaar’, as many as 1,314 arrests were made across different locations on the first day, while 1,186 people were rounded up today, officials said.
Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, speaking to news agency ANI on Operation Parhaar, said, “Investigations are ongoing. Action will be taken against them.”
The police officer added that citizens are also supporting the effort by providing information about gangsters through helpline numbers. He urged the public to extend further support to make the initiative a success by sharing any information they may have.

Under Operation Parhaar, security checks have been intensified at bus stations, railway stations, airports, and inter-state entry and exit points with Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Intelligence agencies and the police are working together in the operation. A special branch will expedite the process of extraditing gangsters living abroad.
