From Medical Graduate to Intel Head: Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill Takes Charge of Punjab Intelligence
The Punjab government on Tuesday appointed 2003-batch IPS officer Sukhchain Singh Gill as the new chief of the state’s intelligence wing.
According to the official notification, Gill, who was posted as IG (headquarters) in April 2022, will now take over as the new Punjab Intelligence Chief.
According to reports, Gill succeeds 1994-batch IPS officer P.K. Sinha, a DGP-rank officer, in this role. Sinha, who previously held the dual charge as Special DGP (Intelligence) and Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau, will now remain posted exclusively as the Vigilance Bureau Chief Director.
Further administrative changes involve 1994-batch IPS officer S.S. Srivastava. As per the official release, Srivastava, who was serving as Special DGP (Security), has been posted as the new Special DGP (Headquarters).
According to the state home department, these appointments take effect immediately. Gill, an MBBS doctor-turned-IPS officer, is a recipient of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and has previously served as the Commissioner of Police in Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar.
His appointment places him at the forefront of Punjab’s internal security and intelligence-gathering operations.
