Hooliganism by congress leaders during nomination filing of panchayat polls condemnable, govt. must extend the date of filing- Harpal Cheema

Chandigarh, December 18, 2018: The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday raised question over the hooliganism by Congress leaders during the paper filing process of Panchayat polls in Punjab. The party demanded from the state elections commission that the leaders of ruling party must be stopped from barring opposition candidates to file the papers.

In a press statement issued from the party headquarters, the leader of opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Harpal Singh Cheema said that the administrative officers are playing in the hands of Congress leaders and unnecessarily creating obstacles for the opposition leaders.

Cheema said that despite presenting all the necessary documents for filing the papers, the no objection certificates are not being issued to opposition candidates. He said that the similar complaints are coming from all areas of the state. He demanded that the paper filing date earlier decided by the govt. must be extended so that the opposition candidates can file the papers. Demanding intervention of state elections commission, he asked to direct the officers to provide equal platform to all candidates beyond party line.
