Mand area of Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab, a Farmer Attempts Suicide Latest News: In the Mand area of Sultanpur Lodhi, due to the flooding caused by the swelling of the Beas River, thousands of acres of paddy crops were destroyed. Additionally, a distressed farmer, whose 15-16 acres of crops were ruined due to the breach of the Ahli Kalan dam, reportedly attempted to end his life by consuming a poisonous substance.
He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Sultanpur Lodhi and is battling for life or death.
According to information received, Arshdeep Singh, son of Malkit Singh from Ahli Kalan, had been mentally distressed for the past few days after his 15–16 acres of crops were destroyed by floodwaters. Reportedly, in a state of despair, he consumed a poisonous substance and was admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
His entire 16-acre crop has been submerged due to the flooding. There is no fodder or green feed left, and his cattle are starving. The farmer owns around 7–8 acres of land, while the remaining land was taken on lease.
It is also reported that the family is burdened with a debt of approximately 10–15 lakh.
Meanwhile, villagers have appealed to Punjabi NRIs across the world to come forward and support this family in their time of distress—just as Punjabis everywhere have united to help flood victims with relief and service efforts.
They emphasized that the family's financial condition is extremely poor and urged the administration, as well as organizations like Khalsa Aid and other social service groups, to step forward and provide all possible assistance to the affected family.
Meanwhile, Amanpreet Singh, the chief operator of the private hospital, stated that the patient’s condition is currently stable. “When he was brought to us, he had consumed some poisonous substance and was in an unconscious state. He was placed on a ventilator for some time, but his condition has since improved,” he said.
He also added that the hospital will extend some support to the farmer from their side as well.
