Chandigarh : Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday expressed his appreciation for the people and the police of the state for ensuring maintenance of law and order during the SAD rally in Faridkot. In a statement issued here, the Chief Minister lauded the people of the state for not succumbing to the desperate efforts of the Badals to trigger tensions during the rally, which was aimed at diverting attention from their own misdeeds, particularly the role of Parkash Singh Badal in the sacrilege cases, as exposed by the Justice (Retd) Ranjit Singh Commission.

Captain Amarinder Singh said the Punjab Police had successfully thwarted any attempts by the Akalis to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the state. Amid intelligence reports that the Akalis would try to create trouble during the rally, the state remained largely peaceful, barring a few minor incidents, which were also quickly controlled by the police, the Chief Minister pointed out.

The Chief Minister said the Punjab Police had once again proven itself to be a fully capable force, well equipped to handle any attempt to disrupt the peace and harmony of the state. Captain Amarinder Singh reposed his full faith in the police force, as well as the Advocate General, lambasting those trying to corner these high institutions.

The Chief Minister categorically rejected any possibility of Advocate General Atul Nanda resigning from office, describing him as a highly competent official who would never do anything against the interests of the state. There was no question of Nanda quitting or being sacked over the nonsensical charges made by former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh, who had been rejected even by the people of Punjab, said the Chief Minister, referring to Bir Devinder’s statement. He said he had full faith in capabilities and professionalism of Nanda, whom he had known for many years.
