Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lauded the leaders, volunteers and candidates of the party who had resolutely faced the hooliganism perpetrated by the Congress goons with the help of the government machinery and stood firm for political change in Punjab.

In a statement issued from the party headquarters, AAP state president and MP Bhagwant Mann said that standing firm in the face of violent incidents by the Congress goons showed the determination of AAP volunteers to pursue their dream of creating a new Punjab.

He said that on the day of municipal bodies’ elections on February 14, the booths were captured by the Congressmen with the connivance of the government machinery. He said that violent incidents took place in Patti, Samana, Rajpura, Bhikhiwind, Jalalabad and Dhuri.

Mann said that during this time, the Congress goons backed by the police badly assaulted the AAP volunteers and in Patti, a party worker was also shot at. Despite this, AAP volunteers continued to face the Congress-backed hooliganism. He said that the Akali Dal and the BJP also had to face the hooliganism of the Congress.

Fearing the hooliganism perpetrated by the Congressmen in capturing the booths, the Akali Dal workers fled and the BJP did not even allow its workers to sit at the booths. “But the brave volunteers of the Aam Aadmi Party confronted the Congressmen. The only reason why AAP volunteers were fighting in such a violent environment was to save Punjab from being looted by SAD, BJP and Congress,” he added.

Mann further said that to fulfill the dream of cleansing the political filth created by these traditional parties in Punjab, a third change has to be made and with these clear intentions, the AAP volunteers stood firm. He said that when the bullying by the Congressmen came to light, the first to protest was the volunteers of the AAP.

“As soon as the news of booth capturing was received in Samana, a large number of AAP volunteers started protesting in front of the booth. When the booths were captured in Rajpura, the AAP volunteers immediately brought the matter to the notice of the media after which the matter was resolved,” said Mann.

He said that while the AAP workers were protesting against the Congress goons in Patti, the latter opened fire, injuring an AAP volunteer and severely assaulting another worker and keeping him in police custody. Mann said that these elections had shown that the AAP volunteers stood firm with the truth.

“The AAP volunteers stand against the injustice and deserve change. It is because of the bravery of the AAP workers that the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was afraid and was trying to tarnish the image of the AAP,” he added. He said that the maneuvers being used by Captain Amarinder had no effect on the AAP. “We will always fight and we will always stand up for the truth,” said Mann.
