Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora has asked the Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to reconsider its decision of denying political clearance to a high-profile investment outreach mission to the UK and Israel.

Describing the decision as "unfortunate and condemnable", Arora demanded an immediate reconsideration. He asserted that the move directly sabotages Punjab's economic prospects and the future of its youth.

The rejected visit was scheduled for February. It was intended as a one-week mission led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to court global business leaders for the upcoming 6th Progressive Punjab Investors' Summit in Mohali.

Arora said that the MEA failed to provide any "proper or clear explanation" for blocking the visit, leading the state government to suspect political motives behind the decision.

Minister Arora highlighted that previous state-led delegations to Japan and South Korea were highly successful in generating investor interest and in generating new opportunities for employment generation.

He argued that the Centre is dealing a "needless blow" to the state's efforts to generate employment.

Despite the setback, Arora maintained a defiant stance for the state government. He said that they "will not be deterred" and will continue to work relentlessly for Punjab’s progress.

The minister emphasised that these international investments are crucial not just for the state but for the overall economic growth of India.
