Police is examining the CCTV Footage to verify the facts
PATIALA: A Woman was shot dead by a devotee on Sunday night in the premises of Gurdwara Shri Dukhniwaran Sahib in Patiala, Punjab. The woman died on the spot. A Sewadaar was also injured in this incident. The accused devotee has been arrested by the police. He has been identified as Nirmaljit Singh, resident of Urban Estate, Patiala.
The Deceased woman has been identified as Parvinder Kaur (32), a resident of Patiala. The incident took place at around 10 pm when she was drinking alcohol inside the Gurdwara. Gurdwara staff tried to stop him. They were trying to take the woman to the gurdwara manager's room for questioning. During this, she tried to attack the employees with a bottle of liquor. After which, Nirmaljit opened fire at her from his licensed revolver. While Sevadar Sagar Kumar got injured. The woman died on the spot. Sagar was taken to Rajindra Hospital.
The SHO of Anaj Mandi police station informed that a case of murder and premeditated murder has been registered against the accused. The revolver of the accused has also been recovered, with which he shot the woman. The police have not yet given clear information about the arrest. But according to the sources, the accused himself surrendered before the police after the murder. Police is examining the CCTV Footage to verify the facts.
Close relatives of the accused said that Nirmaljit Singh Saini got divorced from his ex-wife few days back. After the divorce, he was in depression and was continuously visiting Gurudwara Sahib to pay obeisance.
