Ahead of the Chandigarh Mayor Election 2024 on January 18, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress party have decided the seat share while announcing the alliance. According to information, a deal has been made on the terms that the new Chandigarh mayor would be from the Aam Aadmi Party while the Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor would be from the Congress party.

Notably, the Chandigarh Mayor Election 2024 is set to be held on January 18.

Just recently, councilor Gurcharanjit Singh Kala abandoned the BJP party to join the AAP. He was elected from the city’s ward number 20. Earlier, he had first dumped the Congress to join the BJP in June 2022, and now from the BJP to the AAP party.

Earlier in the day, Kala’s son Amrinder Singh had submitted a complaint to police and alleged that his father was kidnapped. “My father has not come home for the past 2-3 days and we got to know that one Harjinder Singh Bawa, who has affiliations with AAP, kidnapped and detained him without his consent. For several days, my father was getting phone calls from Bawa to support AAP in the upcoming mayoral polls, however, my father refused to do so, and they kidnapped him. There is a threat to his life and liberty,” Kala's son alleged in his complaint.

Soon after this, the AAP announced Kala’s entry into the party while his video also came out. “I have dumped the BJP to join AAP. I am not under any pressure. The BJP has misled my family and circulated fake news of my kidnapping,” he said.
