, the Governor will arrive in Fazilka on January 25
The Punjab government has decided to hold the state-level celebration of the 77th Republic Day in the border district of Fazilka this year, instead of Patiala. The decision has sparked excitement in the district, with preparations currently in full swing.
Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will attend the celebration as the chief guest and hoist the Tricolour at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium.
The district administration has made tight security arrangements ahead of Republic Day. Being a border district, Fazilka has often been deprived of major state-level ceremonies, making this event a significant and proud moment for the region.
Noted social worker Karan Gilhotra termed the decision to host the state-level Republic Day celebration in Fazilka a historic step. He said the move reflects respect for the sentiments of people living in border areas and acknowledges their long-standing contribution to the nation.
Gilhotra added that residents of Fazilka have played a vital role for years in maintaining security, peace, and border surveillance. Holding a major event like Republic Day in the district would help boost the morale of the entire region.
According to Gilhotra, the Governor will arrive in Fazilka on January 25, and several social programmes will be organised in his honour across the city, with the Governor himself presiding over them.
