Amid the ongoing Indigo operational crisis, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has stepped in to ensure smooth functioning at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh, by setting up a 24x7 control room for passenger assistance.

Secretary, Civil Aviation, Punjab, Sonali Giri said the initiative aims to minimise inconvenience to travellers affected by delays and cancellations. She held detailed discussions with airport authorities, CISF officials and airline representatives to streamline the situation.

As per the Chief Minister’s directions, the control room has been activated immediately to facilitate passengers impacted by IndiGo disruptions. The facility, set up at the Duty Terminal Manager’s office, will provide real-time updates and assistance related to refunds, rescheduling, baggage delivery and flight status.

The Secretary Civil Aviation laid thrust on timely refunds, rescheduling, baggage delivery and Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) guideline compliance along with quick grievance redressal.

She informed that IndiGo currently has around  30 bags/ luggage, which will be delivered to passengers’ homes free of cost. The airline has also assured that passengers will be informed about flight cancellations at least 10 hours in advance.

Giri further warned that profiteering by taxi operators or hotels during this crisis will not be tolerated and the state government is keeping a strict vigil over it. Both the state government and airport authorities are ensuring the availability of medicines, food, and essential services for stranded passengers.

The government will also release a list of budget and mid-tier hotels near the airport to assist outstation travellers. Expressing hope that the situation will stabilise soon, Giri urged passengers not to panic, assuring that every possible step is being taken to safeguard their interests.
