Police said the incident became suspicious when efforts were made to trace the owner of the vehicle.

In a highly suspicious incident, a car carrying three gas cylinders of five kilograms each caught fire near a police station in Haryana, prompting the police to launch a multi-angle investigation.

A Maruti 800 car bearing registration number DL 3CAZ 6681 was parked by a man near Ambala’s Baldev Nagar police station around noon on Saturday. He reportedly set the car on fire and recorded a video before leaving the scene. The video was later sent to several addresses.

Police said smoke began emanating from the car before it caught fire. The fire was brought under control immediately, preventing any major damage.

Explaining the sequence of events, police said, “Around noon, a person came to the police station, parked his car, roamed around the premises, and then left. Such activity is normal as the public frequently visits police stations. At that time, nothing appeared suspicious. Some time after he left, smoke was seen emanating from the car, which then caught a small fire. The fire was extinguished immediately.”

Police said the incident became suspicious when efforts were made to trace the owner of the vehicle.

As per preliminary investigation, no explosive material was found at the scene.

“A video of the incident was circulated online. We called a special team to check whether any explosive material was present. After a detailed inspection, no explosive material was found,” police said.

Police further clarified that gas cylinders were found inside the car; however, despite being full, they did not explode during the fire.

Remnants from the scene, including ash and other materials, have been collected by the Scene of Crime Team to determine the cause of the fire.

“It is clear that some inflammable material was present. Whether any explosive material was used will be confirmed once forensic reports are received,” the police added.

The officer said the car’s registration number was intact and pointed out that vehicles are often sold multiple times without ownership being officially transferred.

The registered owner of the car was traced to Delhi. Police said the person who sold the car had died last year, and the deceased’s children were unaware of the incident.

“This car has been sold multiple times since then. The investigation is underway from several angles, and an update will be shared soon,” police said.

From a security and investigative perspective, the CCTV footage has not been shared with the media.
