Bhadaur Suicide: The body of a 35-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in the village Pakho Kalan of the Bhadaur Assembly constituency in Barnala district of Punjab. The family has suspected foul play in the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Gurlal Singh, son of Teja Singh, a resident of Baso Patti in village Pakho Kalan. He was a daily-wage labourer and belonged to a poor family, as per information received. Gurlal Singh was the sole breadwinner of the family and supported his parents and other family members.

What the family of the deceased said

Family members, including the deceased’s mother, father, brother, sister-in-law, and aunt, stated that Gurlal Singh and his wife, Sandeep Kaur, had entered into a second marriage with each other around 11 years ago. Both had children from their previous marriages.

The family alleged that Sandeep Kaur had an illicit relationship with a man from the same village. They claimed that Gurlal Singh often objected to this, following which his wife allegedly threatened to leave him and pressured him repeatedly. The family further alleged that Sandeep Kaur, her parents, and her alleged lover had issued death threats to Gurlal Singh.

They said that when Gurlal Singh did not return home, a search was launched, during which his body was found hanging from a tree along the roadside under suspicious circumstances.

The family suspects that due to Sandeep Kaur’s alleged illicit relationship, Gurlal Singh was murdered, his neck broken, and his body hung from the tree to make it appear as a case of suicide. They have demanded that the police arrest the deceased’s wife, her alleged lover, and members of her parental family, and take strict action against them.

What the police said

SHO Balwinder Singh of Police Station Rurke Kalan said that the police received information about a body hanging from a tree. He added that the preliminary investigation suggests a case of suicide.

Based on the statement of the deceased’s father, Teja Singh, a case has been registered against the deceased’s wife, Sandeep Kaur, and another man from the village. The police officer said that both the accused have been arrested.

He added that further investigation is underway based on the medical report.
