Chandigarh: The Chief Minister's Pilgrimage scheme, launched by the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is proving to be a significant blessing for those wishing to travel to holy sites. To date, more than 33,500 pilgrims have taken advantage of this initiative, which provides free transportation to various pilgrimage destinations across the country. There is considerable enthusiasm for these pilgrimages from every district in Punjab.
The scheme was inaugurated on November 27, 2023, and is designed to offer free travel to elderly individuals over the age of 60 who come from financially weaker backgrounds. Through the Chief Minister's Pilgrimage Scheme, a large number of individuals are able to visit religious sites at no cost, utilizing specially arranged trains and buses. These vehicles are equipped with numerous amenities, including free food, accommodation, and pilgrim kits, as well as complimentary tourist guide services. For the fiscal year 2024-25, an allocation of Rs 25 crore has been proposed for this initiative.
The scheme facilitates trips to various significant religious sites, including Sri Anandpur Sahib, Sri Darbar Sahib, Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib, Abichal Nagar Nanded, Sri Patna Sahib (Bihar), Varanasi Mandir, Ayodhya, Vrindavan Dham (Uttar Pradesh), Sri Ajmer Sharif (Rajasthan), Khatu Shyam, Salasar (Rajasthan), and Mata Sri Chintapurni Ji, Jawala Ji, and Naina Devi.
Pilgrims interested in visiting these religious places can download the registration form from the Transport Department's website and submit it at their local office or the SDM office. Advance registration is mandatory for all passengers.
