"War on Drugs" in Schools: Bains to Shield Punjab’s Children
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has announced a comprehensive school-centric action plan to combat the drug menace at its roots. He addressed a training programme in Mohali alongside former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and said that the government is positioning schools as the "first line of defence" in the Yudh Nashean Virudh campaign.
He said that from the beginning of the next academic session, senior secondary students will be sensitised through a specially designed, value-based curriculum focused on the factual dangers of drug abuse.
He added that a daily 30-minute meditation period will be launched as a pilot project in Mohali district schools to strengthen students' mental discipline and emotional balance.
Training for principals is also a part of the initiative to create a "strong anti-drug environment" where children can firmly resist peer pressure and negative influences.
Minister Bains emphasised that while strict action continues against smugglers, lasting victory requires protecting children before they fall prey to addiction.
Manish Sisodia added that the initiative strengthens the mindset of every child to say a clear "no" to drugs. This multi-dimensional approach, combining education with mental resilience, aims to institutionalise prevention and secure the future of Punjab's youth through structured institutional reform and community awareness.
