Rapid Rise of AIDS in Punjab, More than 10,000 New Cases Wrecked Havoc

As per a 2019 report, more than 6,081 people died of AIDS in Punjab in 11 years

MOHALI: The Rapid surge in HIV AIDS cases has wreaked havoc in the state. The number of reported HIV cases from the year 2022 to January 2023 is staggering. After the menace of drug addiction, now, the report shows that the youth of Punjab is getting engulfed under the grip of HIV. 

If we talk about the data from 2022 to January 2023, then 10,109 cases have been registered. Which is a huge number. Out of which 88 cases are of minors below 15 years of age. The same 10,021 cases were found in people above 15 years of age. These include 8155 males and 1847 females, while 19 are transgender, 56 boys and 32 girls.

Most of these cases have been registered in Ludhiana district. 1711 cases have been reported in Ludhiana. Patiala is followed by 795 HIV positive cases. If we talk about Moga, 712 cases have been identified from there. The condition of other districts is also getting worse. 

Notably, The Drug addiction is already the major cause of concern for the state government. Along with this, taking in view the rapidly increasing number of HIV-positive people, the administration is getting more worried about the people's health. So far, it has not been revealed that what is the reason for the rapid increase in the number of positive cases? According to a 2019 report, more than 6081 people have died of AIDS in Punjab in 11 years.
